The Evans East Coast Advantage
To offer customers an alternative to the lengthy and expensive cargo bottlenecks frequently occurring at West Coast ports,
Evans Distribution Systems opened a new warehouse and distribution facility in Suffolk, Virginia, to serve the greater Port of Virginia.
The facility has been open since the spring of 2004 and represents the Evans East Coast Advantage.
Redirecting cargo to the East Coast: - Offers a more certain delivery date and less potential interruption in the supply chain. -
Means component shipments are often closer to manufacturing facilities, saving on overland transportation costs. - Results in an
estimated cost-saving advantage of $200 per container for shipments taking an all-water route from Asia to the East Coast.
Evans' current facility is located in the middle of extensive international terminals at Portsmouth, Norfolk and Hampton Roads,
now all part of the Port of Virginia. The 50-foot channels at the Port of Virginia are among the deepest on the East Coast,
necessary for ocean-going freighters. It is Evans' second East Coast site, along with a 230,000-square-foot facility in Boston, Mass.
