At a recent company meeting we decided to mix it up a little and let our employees get creative. A couple weeks prior we gave 10 different departments a flip camera to film a short video about their people, their operation, jobs, etc… and asked that they put a Halloween or Horror Movie theme to it (the meeting was right before Halloween).
The camera made its way through several of our Detroit facilities, as well as operations in Virginia, Kansas, Texas & Colorado. The idea was to give employees across locations a look at people that they don’t get to interact with on a daily basis, or put a face to the voice that they talk to across the country.
At a time when we are all busy it was amazing to see the creativity that employees put into the videos. Some of the highlights included a warehouseman who wrote original words to go to the Monster Mash song which the rest of the facility acted out the words to, our HAZMAT facility that did a spin on the Wizard of Oz (a pallet landed on our VP of Business Development), and our Packaging Division reenacting clips from different horror movies including a hilarious clip from Children of the Corn done in a field behind the facility.
The videos turned out to be a hit at the meeting and accomplished all that we set out to do. The audience laughed, cried (well, okay we won’t go that far), and learned more about Evans’ operations & people around the U.S. We even tied in some Horror Movie Awards at the end, including best actress/actor, best director, best score & best overall picture.
To get an idea as to what our employees were able to do, meet our dispatch team in their video – “Murder in Trans”
The overall response from the employees was completely positive, and I have a feeling we’ll be incorporating more video clips into meetings going into 2011. I have a feeling we’ll be sharing more video with all of you soon too. Can’t wait!
