Putting Our Warehouses on the Map

Square footage is just a number until you can picture it. In this Bigger Than series we compare all five million square feet of Evans’ warehouse facilities in Metro Detroit to iconic landmarks to really put our storage capacity into perspective.

18765 Seaway Drive Melvindale, MI 48122

The White House
  • 404,000 square feet

Our corporate headquarters in Melvindale spans 404,000 square feet and is roughly the size of the White House, which approximately 412,000 square feet. The multi-customer warehouse and office building was constructed in 1970 and has served as our warehousing, transportation, staffing, fulfillment and value-added flagship operation.

Despite its obvious lack of historical significance and grandeur that the White House holds, the Melvindale location has the highest number of customers and employees and stands firmly as the “Capitol” of Evans’ full-service solutions by housing out value-added line and fulfillment operations.

2500 Enterprise Drive Allen, MI 48101

Grand Central Terminal - Main Concourse
  • 265,000 square feet

6307 W. Fort St, Detroit, MI 48209

  • 640,000 square feet
Michigan Central Station

As Evans’ largest multi-level facility, the 640,000 square foot warehouse is equal in size to the newly renovated Michigan Central Station in Detroit. This iconic station opened in December of 1913, serving “as the gateway to Detroit, with more than 4,000 rail passengers a day as its peak in the 1940s.” After its closure in 1988, the station was neglected and vacant, standing as a symbolic reminder of Detroit’s financial decline. Today, after nearly $1 billion rehabilitation, funded by Ford Motor Company, the station has transformed into a historical wonder and hub for technological innovation that embodies Detroit’s rebirth.

Fort Street also has deep historical significance as one of Michigan’s oldest state highways. Evans’ first warehouse, Central Detroit Warehouse, opened on Fort Street during the height of the Great Depression, just down the street from Evans’ current location. Hugged between the Ambassador and Gordie Howe Bridge entrances, the Fort Street location is a prime gateway to exchange with our Canadian partners.

9900 Mt. Elliott Detroit, MI 48209

Independence Hall
  • 113,000 square feet

This 113,000 square foot warehouse can be most closely compared to Independence Hall in Philadelphia, which is approximately 108,000 square feet. The Mt. Elliott location is our only hazmat-compliant red label operation, outfitted with a temperature controlled hot room and foam-based fire suppression system. What it lacks in importance compared to the homestead of America’s Declaration of Independence and Constitution, it supports the ever-important biochemical engineering industry that has applications in everyday life.

9303 W. Jefferson Detroit, MI 48209

St. Peter's Basilica Nave Area
  • 168,000 square feet

This 168,000 square foot warehouse can be compared to St. Peter’s Basilica Nave Area in Vatican City (an independent city-state enclaved within Rome, Italy) which spans 165,000 square feet. The Vatican, ruled by the Pope of the Catholic Church, is one of the most famous culture sites in the world and contains priceless paintings, sculptures dating back to 4th Century A.D.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
  • 330,000 square feet

The first of two Romulus-based facilities, this 330,000 square foot warehouse is comparable in size to Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame which is approximately 320,000 square feet. Also known as the Rock Hall, the site documents the history of rock music through its history and recognition of the artists, producers, engineers, and others who have impacted its foundation as one of the most beloved musical genres in the world!

Evan’s Huron location is our largest rail-served facility, boasting a 16-car capacity. The location is ideal for a wide variety of imported goods with ISO, FTZ, food and liquor designations.

36501 Van Born Suite 160 Romulus, MI 48174

Sydney Opera House
  • 300,000 square feet

The second Romulus-based facility is similar in size to the Sydney Opera House in Australia which sits at approximately 300,000 square feet. In addition to its’ musical contributions, the Down Under performing arts center is a globally recognized architectural masterpiece!

Although world’s away to the stunning Australian symphonies, the Van Born Road warehouse is fully equipped and a stone’s throw from all major expressways and the Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

Immigration Center: Ellis Island
  • 313,000 square feet

Lade Liberty herself would not believe that Evans’ Brownstown warehouse facility is just shy of the footprint of the most famous immigration center found off the coast of New York City: Ellis Island. At 315,000 square feet, no other site better encompasses the American Dream – the hope and wonder of building a new life filled with opportunity and success!

The Brownstown facility also breathed new life in Evans a couple years ago, as an expansion Down River, where our customers requested additional storage. The multi-use facility has ample yard space, rack space, and bulk space making it a flexible warehouse solution for a variety of commodities.
