Detroit Container Freight Station
U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (USCBP) Wayne County (Detroit) Port 3801 Customs Office has authorized Evans Distribution Systems to operate as a Container Freight Station (CFS). More than 50,000 square feet of bonded warehouse space is dedicated to assisting USCBP with container inspections in our Melvindale facility.
Efficient and Cost Effective Container Inspection Solutions
Every imported container is subject to random inspections by US Customs & Border Protection. When a container is selected for additional inspection, importers are required to route containers to a secured and bonded offsite facility known as a Container Freight Station to prepare it for inspection. Our convenient location on I-75 and Outer Drive is 10 minutes away from the customs offices and provides easy access from the port and rail yards.

what to expect with evans' cfs
CFS operators partner with CBP in an effort to streamline the inspection process for importers and officers while reducing congestion at the port or rail yards. Our surety bond ensures that containers are protected and secured within our facility; and all items are intact and accounted for throughout the inspection process. All personnel within the CFS must undergo background checks and receive specialized training related to proper handling of imported goods prior to customs clearance. CFS facilities also follow a strict operations manual that is part of an annual audit by customs.
These additional security measures ensure that goods remain intact and accounted for while under our care. If Customs requires manipulation of the goods, such as relabeling or repackaging, these facilities can provide additional value-added services required for clearance.
