
We wrote about what it’s like to work at Evans Distribution a few years ago and thought it was time to share another update. Bottom line: Evans continues to be a special place to work. A recent survey reveals that most employees would recommend Evans Distribution as a workplace to someone they know personally.
Additional positive results include:
- 87% of employees enjoy the work they do
- 84% say they have a good work/life balance
- 78% say their direct manager recognizes their hard work and efforts
Simple fact, we have always care about our employees. In fact, 11.5 % of all Evans’ employees have been at the company for more than 20 years. Leadership invests heavily our greatest asset—our people.
Here is an updated review of internal programs that contribute to workplace satisfaction.
Recognition
Recognition comes in many forms and for many reasons. At Evans, we recognize employees who have gone above and beyond their normal job functions to exceed customer expectations, support their teammates, and improve daily operations/work conditions for all. We also support important anniversary milestones, promotions, and retirements with appreciation gifts and online company announcements. Equally, leaders often bring in snacks or lunch for departments when team performance is high.
Work/Life Balance
Evans recognizes that work/life balance is important to retaining employees and high productivity at the work. Whether accommodations are related to family, health, wellness, or professional development, we strive to provide flexibility where it is needed. This flexibility can be attributed to work-from-home policies, flexible workday schedules, specialized benefit options, and we support employees when they need it most.
Training & Personal Education
All new employees are required to go through a robust training program to help them be successful, knowledgeable and safe. From there, training is ongoing, as new topics and relevant content becomes available. We provide Lunch & Learns focused on personal topics including mortgaging or refinancing homes, retirement strategies, financial management, and much more.
Fitness Reimbursement Program
The Fitness Reimbursement Program is a popular benefit focused on improving health and fitness at Evans. The goal of this program is to promote employee health and wellness through fitness and nutrition. The program covers costs related to health club membership fees, fitness centers or instructional classes such as yoga, Pilates, Zumba, cycling, or martial arts. It also covers weight loss and smoking cessation programs up to $240 per year.
Wellness Newsletter
The wellness newsletter is distributed monthly to the entire staff. There are a variety of mental and physical wellness topics such as heart-healthy lifestyle, mindfulness, meditation techniques, meaningful connections, being active in the workplace, children’s health, community volunteerism, and more.
Personal Development Reimbursement Program
Much like the fitness reimbursement program, the personal development program provides an avenue for employees to further themselves through online courses or training, in-person classes, conferences, speaking engagements, professional development events, scholarly journals, reports, books, guides, subscriptions, licenses, and software. It also covers memberships to professional organizations and professional certifications and executive-level courses for up to $250 per year.
Employee Assistance Programs
Employees and family members have access to 24/7 toll-free assistance in legal/financial consultation, child and family resources and referrals, veteran resources, and much more.
Holiday Activities
We are always happy to show the holiday spirit at Evans. We host annual Halloween costume contest, Christmas party, March Madness Spirit Week, and Major League Baseball’s Opening Day, just to name a few. Departments are encouraged to decorate their work area in the spirit of the season. We also throw holiday-themed events like our recent Valentine’s Day blog-a-thon. These events promote departmental team building and company-wide collaboration.
Promote from Within
Evans’ 3PL Insights Blog features a variety of topics throughout the year, including ones where we give readers an inside look into the happenings at Evans. One of these blogs that showcases employees is the “Promote from Within” series. This topic takes a look at specific journeys employees have taken working at Evans and how their growth and development has blossomed through their experience here. Basically, it’s a great way to brag about the awesome people who work here!
Litmos Training
Litmos training is an online educational portal that all employees take advantage of when they join Evans. The training content grows year after year as we continue to add videos, internal documents, and online presentations to the library. Departments also share content specific to their roles and industries. We are always working on new and interesting programming to enhance the Litmos library.
