What Does 90 Years Mean to Me?

Very few companies have been around for 90 years. A logistics company from 1929 is world’s away from today’s standards. The resilience that Evans Distribution Systems has shown makes it a truly special place to work. As our 90th year comes to an end, we take a moment to reflect on all our years of business—the greatest takeaways, moments and people who make Evans what it is today. The only way to explain what 90 years truly means, is to ask the people who helped us get here. This is what they had to say.

 Dan Alcock, IT Business Analyst

“Being in business for 90 years, spanning 4 generations, means that Evans understands how to evolve as the needs of its customers evolve. Evans is flexible to the ever-changing demands of the logistics industry. This makes Evans a special place to work because I know that the leadership team will continue to innovate in order to stay relevant and successful. Why? Because we always have.”

Justin Archibald, Operations Manager

“If you stop and think that we began the same year as the Great Depression and persevered through the worst economic time of the 20th century, it’s incredible. I have been lucky to be around Evans for 15 of these 90 years. During this time, people have come and gone but the family culture has never changed. I left Evans for a 3-year period at the blessing of everyone at Evans to do so. Today, I am forever grateful to have that opportunity and be welcomed back to be a part of the booming growth of this company. I look forward to celebrating the 100th anniversary and many more with Evans Distribution Systems.”

Alyson Fields, Manager Inside Sales

“Working for a fourth-generation, privately-owned company is fantastic.  At Evans, everyone is treated like family.  In 90 years, Evans has created an open, collaborative, and nurturing culture that allows us to thrive. We are given so many opportunities to learn new things and expand our skillsets, as well as, grow and advance within the company.  All of us are encouraged to participate in the many positive and fun team-building events throughout the year. I find it rewarding to learn more about the company and connect with other employees that we may not get the opportunity to engage with.”

Jennifer Guerra, Human Resources Manager

“To me, 90 years of success at Evans means multiple generations evolving with time to create a great culture.  A culture of togetherness, teamwork, support and compassion which is key to our success.”

Michelle Hartzog, Customer Service Representative

“I am proud to know that we have held our standing in the history of Detroit for so many years. Evans has had various customers in a wide range of product handling. I think the most important trait of Evans is how flexible and understanding the company philosophy has been for making employees feel that their personal lives are important.”

As one can see, Evans has built a culture that is just as much about people as it is about third-party logistics. People are what drive us forward, give us resilience in challenging times and bring a higher purpose to strengthening the community in which we live and raise families. To that we say, “Cheers to the amazing people who have made Evans what it is today! Onward and upward in the next 90 years!”
