MELVINDALE, Mich., April 8, 2024 — Evans Distribution Systems, a full-service third-party logistics (3PL) provider of warehousing, transportation, fulfillment, value-added, and staffing solutions, has activated 262,143-square-feet of its warehouse space in Brownstown, as a General Purpose Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) No. 70. The multi-client facility located at 17550 Allen Road, Brownstown Charter Twp., Mich., is well-positioned to support international cargo from Canada and through the rail yards and Port of Detroit.
A Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) is a special economic zone in the U.S. where imported goods can be stored, distributed, processed, and used without being subject to customs duties. Customs duties and excise taxes are due only at the time when goods are transferred out of the FTZ.
“Evans has operated a Foreign Trade Zone since 1987,” says John A. Evans, President and CEO of Evans Distribution Systems. “It has given our customers a competitive advantage to storing inventory in the U.S. without having to pay upfront fees.”
Many industries rely on international importation including automotive parts, spirits, plastic, rubber products, tools and more. The 301,000-square-foot facility in Brownstown has 29 dock doors, grade level access, 32’ clear ceiling height, and is equipped with an ESFR fire suppression system.
