Cookie Fulfillment

BACKGROUND

Girl Scout Cookies had their earliest beginnings in the kitchens and ovens of our girl members, with moms volunteering as technical advisers. The sale of cookies as a way to finance troop activities began as early as 1917, five years after Juliette Gordon Low started Girl Scouting in the United States, when the Mistletoe Troop in Muskogee, Oklahoma, baked cookies and sold them in its high school cafeteria as a service project.

CHALLENGE

For more than 100 years Girl Scouts have sold cookies using door-to-door sales tactics. This traditional method is great for personal interaction and learning basic business skills. Because technology is such a large factor in everyday lives and has grossly affected the world of commerce, (Girl Scouts of the USA) GSUSA wanted their scouts to be able to keep up with these trends. The Digital Cookie program was developed to do just this.

GSUSA needed a vendor, or multiple vendors to help with the supply chain and order fulfillment process. Along with this great new program came the challenge of managing the sales receipts and finances, e-commerce platform, order management, inventory management, and shipping process. Keeping the process simple and manageable was key to the success of the program.

SOLUTION

Evans proposed a solution designed to meet all of the challenges presented by GSUSA. With great communication and swift execution, the Evans team tailored a fulfillment solution that managed all aspects of the Digital Cookie order program from the point at which a customer clicked purchase on the website. Evans handled the financial management of sales receipts from the Digital Cookie website, and distributed funds to venders according to pre-arranged details. Truckloads of cookies were received and comprehensive inventory management systems were implemented for the program. All orders were electronically transmitted to Evans’ systems, printed and packaged in Evans’ fulfillment center. Evans’ solution also provided GSUSA detailed visibility of orders received, orders shipped, inventory on hand, order status, shipping status, and returns.
